PUNCAK - The 323 Task Force of Raider Infantry Battalion 323/Buaya Putih Kostrad teamed up with residents of Yenggernok Village, Gome District, to build a Honai, the traditional Papuan house. This effort is part of the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) mission under HABEMA Command, combining security operations with meaningful community engagement. Thursday (24/10/2024).
The Honai, a symbol of unity and tradition, is central to Papuan culture, serving as a communal space for families and tribes. This project not only preserves tradition but also strengthens the bond between the military and the local community.
The construction of the Honai for Mr. Matius Turnib was made possible thanks to the strong social ties between the Task Force and local residents. First Lieutenant Galang, leading the team from the Gome Post, emphasized the importance of working side by side with the community.
Residents and soldiers worked together to gather wood, prepare straw for the roof, and assemble the Honai frame, showcasing a spirit of cooperation and unity. Mr. Matius, grateful for the support, shared his joy:
"Thank you, Commander 323. The construction is going smoothly. God bless."
According to Lieutenant Colonel Tri Wiratno, Commander of the 323 Task Force, inclusive social communication is essential to TNI’s efforts in Papua. "This partnership with the Yenggernok community shows how cooperation with local residents can accelerate development and promote peace in the region, " he added.
The initiative received high praise from Brigadier General Lucky Avianto, Commander of HABEMA.
"This project reflects TNI’s commitment to inclusive social engagement, which is key to improving well-being and development in Papua, " he said.
The construction of this Honai represents more than just building a physical structure it reflects tespect for tradition, unity, and shared purpose. The collaboration between Task Force 323 and the people of Yenggernok shows that progress and tradition can go hand in hand, bringing hope and strengthening trust in the region.
This initiative highlights the professional, responsive, and adaptive approach of TNI, ensuring that their presence not only provides security but also fosters positive change in the lives of the people they serve.
